Employers and workers in Southern Ohio have access to a variety of pre-employment training and incumbent worker retraining programs. The State of Ohio provides several incentive packages to counties and firms for training. Most providers in the region offer customization to employers and deliver training on site.

Companies located in Southern Ohio also have access to several private and public universities offering a variety of degrees and specialized programs. For instance, Shawnee State University offers a certificate, an associate and bachelor's degree in Plastics Engineering Technology. Ohio University - Southern Campus and Collins Career Center jointly offer a six-week Central Office, Telecommunication and Fiber-Optics Installation program. Ohio University-Southern Campus also offers organizational analysis, strategic planning, workforce profiling, assessment services, human resource planning and skills development at the supervisory, managerial and executive levels. Ohio University-Chillicothe Campus offers on-site customized training programs for local businesses. Programs such as ISO 9000 certification TQM, team building, leadership skills, supervisory and management development, communications, customer service and computer applications are available.
