Ohio's Appalachian Country announces employment opportunity for an Executive Director. Ohio's Appalachian Country is a member funded not-for-profit organization that cooperatively promotes the tourism product of Ohio's 29 Appalachian counties. See below for full description.

 

Position: Executive Director
Reports to: Board of Directors
Status: Salaried Contract ($45,000.00 per year)

Requirements:

Degree in business administration, marketing or advertising, or a minimum of five (5) years experience in the travel and tourism industry.

Specific Qualifications:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge in Appalachian socio-economic conditions including heritage and culture.
  2. Prior experience in researching and writing grants.
  3. Experience with computer applications utilizing graphics, publication, word processing, spreadsheet, database programs, and other basic software programs.
  4. Ability to demonstrate a good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  5. Prior experience working and interacting with a diverse group of people on all business levels and situations.
  6. Ability to work without constant supervision.
  7. Ability to work as team member.
  8. Must possess a valid driver’s license, have own dependable transportation, and automobile insurance.
  9. Must be available to travel with overnight stays and work evenings, weekends, and special events as needed.

Description: Working under the guidance of the Ohio’s Appalachian Country (O.A.C.) Board of Directors, the Executive Director will encourage and develop cooperative efforts and foster partnerships throughout the region, with the goal of promoting Appalachia as a tourism destination.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Board of Directors
    • Attend Board meetings and meetings of designated committees and report on all OAC programs in the depth necessary to provide the Board or committee with sufficient information in order to make effective decisions and to take proper action.
    • Present a written report to the Board at the time of their meeting. Report should comprehensively review the recent activities and present areas of concern.
  • Administration/Finance
    • Legislative advocate for the Appalachian region of Ohio. 8/30/2004
    • Develop funding mechanism to insure sustainability of the Executive Director position.
    • Recommend and participate in the formulation of new policies and make decisions within existing policies.
    • Coordinate long and short range planning.
    • Provide support to the Board of Directors in their development and fundraising efforts.
    • Develop, in conjunction with the OAC Finance Committee, an annual budget to be prepared and submitted to the Board of Directors for approval no later than August of each year.
    • Upon approval of the budget, the Executive Director will assist the OAC Treasurer in monitoring all expenses and receipts.
    • Provide a monthly financial report to the Treasurer.
    • Oversee and provide necessary information and documentation for audit(s) as required by the Board of Directors or Auditor, State of Ohio.
    • Maintain compliance with all State, Federal, and Local laws as pertains to not-forprofit organizations.
    • Recruit and retain members; striving to increase membership 15% each year.
  • Marketing/Sales/Public Relations
    • Supervise all OAC communications with the public.
    • Develop marketing and advertising strategies to attract visitors to Appalachian Ohio within budgetary limits.
    • Coordinate the design and placement of all advertising and collateral material with the assistance of the Marketing Committee and/or advertising agent (if utilized).
    • Represent OAC as media spokesperson.
    • Develop familiarization (FAM) tours as needed.
    • Attend trade and travel shows as needed.
  • Grant Writing
    • Researches grant opportunities compatible with (in support of) projects administered by OAC.
    • Complete and submit grant applications with the Board President in accordance with preparation guidelines specific to each grant.
  • Any other duties/responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Board of Directors.
