Appalachian Ohio has 5,800 miles of track with 4,500 miles of Class I Rail. Ohio ranks fourth in the United States for having the the most miles of Class I Rail.

Ohio has two Class I Railroads (CSX and Norfolk Southern). The area also has 35 regional and shortline Railroads.

East Central Ohio is served by Norfolk Southern, CSX, Ohio Central, and Wheeling & Lake Erie railroads. Additionally, a number of independent rail lines serve the region.
